1. Is Photo Identity Card required to book e-Ticket?

The User should not provide any document/I card details of any of the passengers while booking the ticket. However he need to carry below mentioned photo identity card of any of the passengers while traveling.

The following photo identity cards are considered valid.

  • Voter Identity Card
  • Passport
  • PAN card
  • Driving License
  • Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School / College for their students
  • Nationalised Bank Passbook with photograph

Photo identity cards issued by Central/State Government for their employees

3. How can I cancel e-ticket and how will I get refund?

E-Tickets (Reservations) can be cancelled only through online till Chart preparation of the train and would not be allowed at Railway Counters. If the user want to cancel his e-Ticket, he can do it at the time of chart preparation for the train (which is normally 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train) through online. He can log on to www.railticketonline.com and click on Book History link and select the ticket to be cancelled. Cancellation would be confirmed online and the refund would be deposited back to the user account. If there is any partial cancellation of ticket please ensure that the modified ticket (Electronic Reservation Slip) is printed separately as for the original ticket.


4. How can I cancel e-ticket after preparation of chart?

For any claims on e-tickets to be cancelled after the preparation of Reservation charts, User need to visit www.railticketonline.com Follow The Path My-Account -> TDR Link and fill up the TDR File for E Ticket cancellation then the transaction would be processed by IRCTC and refund will be sanctioned by the Railway Administration  which would be deposited back to the user account.

5. What happens if after preparation of chart my ticket remains in RAC and I don't want to travel?

If the user wishes to cancel his e-Ticket, he can do so till the time of chart preparation for the train (which is normally 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the train starting station) through online. No cancellation of e-ticket is permitted on-line after the chart preparation. User need to visit www.railticketonline.com Follow The Path My-Account -> click on TDR Link and should fill up the TDR file For Ticket then the transaction would be processed by IRCTC and refund will be sanctioned by the Railway Administration which would be deposited back to the user account.


6. if I forget to carry Photo Identity card?

One of the passenger who book E-ticket is required to present any of the valid five identity cards noted below in original during the train journey and same will be accepted as a proof of identity failing which the passenger will be treated as ticket less traveler and shall be fined as per extant Railway Rules.

The following photo identity cards are considered valid.

7. How to postpone/prepone journey?

This can be done on line by canceling the existing ticket and booking a new ticket.

No This facility is not available.

9. What is Tatkal Ticket?
  • Tatkal bookings are  allowed in all classes except First AC and Executive class
  • Tatkal charges per passenger( in addition to normal ticket fare as on 29-dec-2005)
  • Tatkal tickets can be booked five days in advance of the date of journey
  • Tatkal can be booked for selected trains five days in advance upto chart preperation. e-tickets  can be booked  on  the opening day from 8.00 am onwards.
    e.g., If  today is 1st May, for journey on the 5th day (opening  day booking –6th May) e ticket booking starts from 8 AM and for journey on 1st May, 2nd May,3rd May,4th May and 5th May,e ticket booking starts from 5 AM onwards
  • Tatkal tickets can be booked only  from source station to destination station and from remote station having Tatkal quota  to destination with boarding facility from intermediate station. For some trains/class/locations Tatkal quota may not be available. Please check the availability before booking.
  • No concession is allowed in Tatkal booking.This restriction applies to Sr. citizen concession also.
  • Modification of ticket in any form is not permitted in Tatkal ticket.
  • A flat refund of 25% of total fare charged on ticket,excluding Tatkal Charges is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets, which are cancelled up to 24 hrs. before the schedule departure of train. No refund on confirmed Tatkal tickets when cancelled within 24 hrs.of the schedule departure of train. For contingent cancellation & waitlisted Tatkal ticket cancellations,charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules .
  • All other existing rules and regulations pertaining to e-ticket booked through internet and all railway rules   are applicable to Tatkal tickets also.

10. How much extra should I pay for my e-ticket?

RailTicketOnline levies a service charge of Rs.10/- (Second/Sleeper) and RS.20/- (Higher Class) for the first passenger and an additional RS.5/- for every subsequent passenger upto a maximum of Rs.25/- (Second/Sleeper) and RS.40/- (Higher Class).
