NASHIK-SHIRDI-ELLORA-Aurangabad
Standing on the Godavari, one of the India’s Holiest Rivers, Nashik is peppered with hundreds of Temples & Bathing Ghats. It’s an absorbing, colourful town with many associations with the Hindu Epic Ramayana. Lord Rama & his wife Sita were exiled here, and it is where Lamana hacked off the nose (nasika) of Ravan’s Sister, giving the city its name. Most of the Nashik’s temples date back to the 18th Century. Triambakeshwar Temple is one of Shiva’s 12 naturally occurring Jyotirlings. Shirdi, birth place of original Sai Baba calls you to offer his blessings. Shani Singnapur enroute to Aurangabad is a temple of Shani Mahavaj. Aurangabad named after Aurangzeb, who established a capital here in 1653. Bibi Ka Maqbara, the so called “Poor Man’s Tajmahal” affords good view. Panchakki (water wheel) driven by water carried through earthen pipes from the river 6 km. away, its considered a marvel of engineering. Daulatabad Fort stands on pyramid-shaped hill surrounded by four solid concentric walls & offers awesome sweeping views. Shivaji Museum exhibits the military prowess of the Marathas. 500 years old chain-mail suit, a copy of hand written Quran by Aurangzeb and a 400 year old Paithani Sari. Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has the magnificent Kailashnath Rock-cut Temple (Cave-16). Altogether Ellora has 34 rock-cut caves & represents the renaissance of Jainism. The sculptures show the increasing influence of Tantric elements in India’s three great religions & their co-existence at one site.Tour Itinerary:
